Her Story

About Tins

I've been building companies from scratch since graduating from college, starting with fashion and textiles in New York before moving to California to open my skincare company. Along the way, I also created my children's nonprofit, Hugs and Smiles Children's Foundation, which has been one of the things I love most in life, helping underprivileged kids through music, art, and dance programs. I've had incredible successes and some horrible failures, but I've learned valuable lessons from every experience. During COVID, I lost my ability to speak and had to shut down everything for three years. When I started regaining my speech, I went to Italy hoping for rejuvenation, but within three days I was robbed twice and left with no passport, no money, no other form of ID, and no credit cards. I honestly didn't think I was going to make it home alive. That harrowing experience, where I felt like a homeless immigrant, became the foundation for my book 'Fear to Faith,' which is about survival and self-discovery through spirituality. The book reflects on my entire journey of life, my inner strength, how I started businesses, and how I've cheated death twice before in my life. Every chapter has lessons learned with a lot of reflection about your own inner strength and conversations with God, who was my only Savior at that point. Now I'm focused on sharing what I've learned through consulting and coaching, helping people understand the intricate details of building a business, opening a nonprofit, or becoming an author, and most importantly, what to avoid.

Ten minutes with Tins

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to three main influencers in my life: my grandfather, my mother, and Oprah Winfrey. What I learned from them was their passion, their purpose, their courage, and their kindness. These values and the moral compass they provided have guided me throughout my journey. I've also learned that you have to put in the work and have integrity to make it in business today. When you feel that tug in your heart pulling you in the right direction, that's what I call God, and I think that's been my guide. Faith is my number one value. The book is called Fear to Faith because having faith and following what's in your heart is so important. When your heart is telling you something more than anybody else, and you have all these negative naysayers saying you can't do it, but your heart is still telling you you can, don't let anyone disillusion you or take away your dream.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I can share comes from hard lessons I've learned throughout my journey. First of all, don't jump into anything before you do your research. That was a big lesson for me. When I was young and ambitious, I liked something and said I'm gonna do it by sheer will, and while I made it happen because I knew people and took whatever advice I could get, I could have done much better if I had been more prepared. What I suggest is do your research, and if you really like to do something, find a company that's doing it and spend a year learning the ropes before you go out on your own. This applies to every field, whether you're building a business, opening a nonprofit, or wanting to become an author. Understanding the intricate details that are needed and what to avoid is crucial. I'm going to be doing consulting programs, and probably coaching too, because I've gone through so much with real-life experience, and I can really get people in the right direction of what to do and what not to do.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering any field is to do your research before you jump in. I learned this the hard way. When I was young and ambitious, I would hear about something I liked and just say I'm gonna do it by sheer will. I made it happen because I was determined and I knew people, but I could have done much better if I had taken the time to really learn first. So what I suggest is, if you really want to do something, find a company that's doing it and spend a year learning the ropes before you go out on your own. This applies whether you're building a business, opening a nonprofit, or becoming an author. Learn the intricate details that are needed and what to avoid. And most importantly, go with your heart. If your heart is telling you something more than anybody else, and all these negative things and naysayers are around you saying you can't do it, but your heart is still telling you you can and you want to, don't let anyone disillusion you. Take away the negative forces and go with what you love. At the end of the day, if a year of work goes by and you say it's not right, that's okay. But if your heart is telling you to move forward, follow it, because it's just a life lesson to move forward in life.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Since I am a new author, the biggest challenge right now is really the marketing end of it. How to have the furthest reach as possible, and trusting the right people to do it and help you with it. I've gone through a couple of different groups right now, different publishing companies, and it has been the worst experience of my life. They take your money, and I don't see results, and you're not really sure where you're going to be placed, who is going to see you, or in what other arenas. That's the big challenge I see going forward. I've been preparing my marketing campaign, but I still don't have the reach, and the people I hired did nothing, and I couldn't continue with them. So the biggest challenge is getting with the right marketing company. I've spent thousands of dollars on people this year and it's out of control. I need to find partners who can actually deliver results and help me get my message out there effectively.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Faith is my number one value. The book is called Fear to Faith because having faith is so important to me. When you feel that tug in your heart, to me, that's God. There's something bigger that comes into your heart that's pulling you in the right direction. I call it God, and I think people need to realize that we're human beings and God has given us a gift. Beyond faith, integrity is absolutely essential. For business, you have to put in the work and have integrity to make it today. I also value morals, kindness, compassion, empathy, and courage. These values came from my three main influencers: my grandfather, my mother, and Oprah Winfrey. Their passion, their purpose, their courage, and their kindness shaped who I am. Today, I see kids who are influences for a moment online, and they think they're doing well, but it's going to crash because they haven't built something for themselves to really give back. They're just taking things and sharing it without it coming from their heart. That's not how you build something lasting.
