About Tish
With 47 years of experience dedicated to education and community service, I’ve built my career on connecting people, solving problems, and creating opportunities where none existed before. I began teaching at St. Dominic’s School in Mobile, Alabama, and later moved to Texas with just $6, ten egg salad sandwiches, and a Chevron credit card — a leap of faith that set the course for the rest of my life.
In Pasadena, Texas, I taught at St. Pius and worked with predominantly Hispanic students, a new and deeply rewarding experience that shaped my understanding of the diverse communities I would serve for decades. Over the years, I spent 38 years in education as both a teacher and an assistant principal, eventually helping to open a brand‑new high school and supporting a student body of more than 3,500 young people.
After retiring from education, I was asked by the Mayor of Pasadena to serve as the city’s Educational Liaison — a role created to bridge the communication gap between the City of Pasadena and its independent school districts, two major entities in Texas that had long operated without consistent coordination. Today, I connect schools and city leadership in ways that strengthen partnerships, open new resources, and highlight the remarkable achievements of our students.
One of the initiatives I’m most proud of is Fill the Bus, a school supply drive that supports the approximately 4,000 teachers serving 50,000 students across 68 schools in Pasadena ISD. By working with local businesses and area industries, we collect supplies so teachers don’t have to spend money from their own pockets.
I also make it a priority to bring the mayor and city council into our schools to witness firsthand the incredible accomplishments happening every day. Whether it’s celebrating students or spotlighting exceptional achievements — like the Pasadena student whose artwork sold for a record‑breaking $528,000 at the Houston Rodeo auction — I want our community to see what our kids are capable of.
At the heart of everything I do is a passion for building bridges: between schools and city leaders, between students and opportunities, and between the community and the bright future our young people represent
