Her Story

About Tisha

I am the Executive Director and founder of Our Passion Purpose, Inc., a survivor-led and survivor-ran nonprofit organization that I founded in 2016. My career path started in the corporate world with a background in banking, office management, and bookkeeping, but I was spiritually led to open this organization when I recognized a critical gap in the industry. While many nonprofits were helping women through emergency services, the long-term assistance was not there. I had always been connected with local nonprofits, giving back by being an expert in the room and sharing my story, but I felt called to create something more comprehensive. In my role, I handle the day-to-day operations, marketing, community engagement, and all the programs and services we offer. Our organization focuses on trauma-informed long-term care rather than just crisis intervention. One of our greatest goals is our three-phase transitional housing program for women, where services are enhanced and participants receive personal touch with healing components, education advancement, financial literacy, and wraparound services on the back end. As a smaller grassroots organization, we face challenges with recurring funding since we don't have governmental or local backing, but we think outside the box with different types of fundraisers, events, in-kind services, and social media marketing to bring awareness and support our mission. My most notable achievement has been seeing several of my women continue on to further their education and get degrees, enhancing their income and creating self-sufficiency for their families.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

There are several things that I would tell her as far as getting into this industry. Number one, have patience. Number two, regarding funding, yes, although there's various funding services out there, it takes time, and there may be multiple people, so expect to receive no's prior to the yeses, but keep going. And I would say number three, my number three would be the most pivotal and most important, and that's stay focused on your mission. Stay focused on your mission, because your mission is why you started your organization.
