Her Story
About Tolani
My career path has been shaped by my natural inclination for problem-solving and my belief that I should evolve every year at minimum, not just in title or promotions, but in knowledge and depth of exposure to what's possible in technology. I started as a business analyst fresh out of college, guided by a woman mentor who showed me the ropes and introduced me to the world of project management. As an explorer, I've considered many paths including software engineering, cloud engineering, and cybersecurity, but I kept being drawn back to user-driven and data-driven development because I love engaging with stakeholders, understanding their pain points and problems. Mentorship has been the anchor of how I've elevated my career, and having people mentoring my name where I'm not has been a whole different type of elevation. Problem-solving is woven through every thread of my life, both professionally and personally. Whether I'm doing a task or driving somewhere, I'm always looking for the best way, the quickest and fastest way to achieve something, operating in excellence and innovation. I started diving deeper into AI in late 2019, right before COVID, and I've been learning continuously. In the past year, I decided to step away from just self-learning and get in front of the people who are building frontier AI, training with OpenAI and working with leaders from Silicon Valley. I'm building my portfolio to be part of those people doing AI for good, showing the positive possibilities of AI in areas like healthcare, disease diagnosis, and accessibility. I'm very data-driven and an avid learner who loves to discover what's next and how we can continue to improve and push the limits of what's possible.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the incredible women who have played a huge role in my life and the power of mentorship. One of the first people who introduced me to the project management and business analyst world was a friend I consider a mentor who showed me the ropes fresh out of college. Mentorship has really been the anchor of how I've been able to elevate my career, and having people mentoring my name where I'm not has been a whole different type of elevation that has helped me tremendously. I'm also naturally wired for problem-solving - it's part of my everyday life. Whether I'm at home with family and friends or in my professional work, I'm always trying to find a better way, the best approach, operating in excellence and innovation. I have this thing where I believe I should evolve every year at minimum, not just in title or promotions, but in my knowledge and depth of exposure to what's possible, especially in the technology space. I'm an explorer and an avid learner who loves to solve problems, and that curiosity and drive to continuously learn and discover what's next has been essential to my growth.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In the technology space, the biggest challenge is always the fear of being left behind as things change so rapidly. That's why I've made learning a part of my lifestyle, where I'm always going to be learning and evolving. Another challenge I face as a woman is the fear around starting a family and what that means for your career, especially if you're very career-driven and have a hustler mindset like me. A lot of women have conversations about what that world looks like for us. The other major challenge is staying consistent and working towards that North Star vision every single day. On the opportunity side, I'm seeing incredible possibilities with AI, particularly in areas like disease diagnosis, healthcare accessibility, and insurance. I recently discovered the amazing potential of what AI can do within these spaces, and I believe there are tremendous opportunities to do AI for good and show people the positive, impactful possibilities rather than focusing on the negative narratives.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Excellence and innovation are core values that drive everything I do. I'm always trying to find the best approach and the quickest, fastest way to achieve something, whether it's a task I'm doing or even just driving somewhere. I believe in operating in excellence in all areas of my life. Problem-solving is woven through every thread of my life, both professionally and personally. I'm constantly looking for better ways to do things and pushing myself to evolve. I also deeply value continuous learning and growth - I have this thing where I believe I should evolve every year at minimum, not just in title or promotions, but in my knowledge and depth of exposure to what's possible. Consistency is important to me too, making sure I'm working towards my North Star vision every single day. I keep my goals always open on my computer as one tab I never shut, because I want to always make sure that everything I'm doing today gets me closer to completing that goal.
