Her Story

About Toniann

I've been working in the fast food industry for nine years, all with McDonald's. I just got promoted a few weeks ago to supervisor, which is something I'm really proud of because I worked for four years to get this position. My journey has been about moving up little by little, going from running a low-volume store to a high-volume store, which showed me I was meeting my goals. My main areas of expertise are working with people and emotional intelligence. I'm really good with people and I know how to get through to them. I'm also really good with numbers. What I'm most proud of is just running the business and finally becoming a supervisor after all those years of hard work.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to determination and hard work. I never give up, probably doesn't matter how hard it becomes, because successful people, they have to go through the hard work for them to see the successes in the future. It's just hard work, determination, and never give up.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I always try to influence them to go soft [go for it]. So many people get scared, especially over here in the United States, because they just know about fast food. I try to tell them, no, you can actually move up over here, and you can actually make a career and live from McDonald's. It doesn't matter where you come from, your identity, your race, or nothing like that. A lot of people get scared because they don't know the language, but McDonald's actually has a program where you can get tuition for English class or Spanish class, language classes and everything. I never judge a person. If you're not able to speak the language, I'm gonna help you out. We can communicate through Google Translate. I actually had one person in my store who was French, so she didn't talk no English, but we communicated through Google Translate, and she was able to step it up in the industry.
