Her Story
About Tori
I've been in the pharmacy field for over 13 years now, and I've really experienced every angle of it. I started from the very bottom working in retail pharmacy, then moved to hospital settings, worked on the insurance side, and now I'm working as a Pharmacy Account Executive for a PBM where I manage clients who are health insurance companies, mostly serving Medicaid members. In my role, I take on their requests, solve their issues, and update our pharmacy system for how their prescriptions need to be processed. I've been in this position for over four and a half years, coming up on five years this July. I'm also a pharmacy technician instructor online, which I've been doing for almost a year now. I would say my current job serving the Medicaid population has been my biggest achievement in the pharmacy industry so far. I feel like I've hit full circle, and now being an instructor has definitely added to the mix of my full-on pharmacy technician experience. I always wanted to be in the medical field, but I didn't want to be hands-on giving surgeries or drawing blood or anything like that. I always found pharmacy very fascinating, and when I first got into it just by being in retail, I didn't realize the amount of opportunities there are to actually grow as a pharmacy technician. I don't think many others who work in retail are as aware either, so it's been a great experience to see the growth in being a pharmacy tech and where it's taken me today.

Ten minutes with Tori
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think it's just always being determined to wanting to get to the next level, and to really see every angle of pharmacy, and to keep going. I'm hoping within the next year or two that I find the next chapter coming up, and I'm just trying to figure out what that should be. It's about that drive to keep pushing forward and exploring all the different opportunities in the field.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Being in an account management role, the challenges are always trying to keep the client happy, whether it's not even our fault. The changes are driven by state mandates, so I think it's just keeping things flowing smoothly. Something always happens, and we have to deal with issues in the moment when they come, and just really trying to communicate effectively to the client and to other people in other departments, so that we're all on the same page. And sometimes we're not always on the same page, but we get there.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Having work balance is really important to me. I have two jobs technically at the moment, and I love the working from home life. I am able to balance it all, and still be able to, when I'm not working, enjoy going out and traveling when I can. I love to travel. Spending time with family is very big. So that's kind of my main focus, really, is just my family and keeping up with professional life.
