Tori Skene is the Founder of BeHealth Digital, a specialized behavioral health marketing agency dedicated to helping treatment centers connect with individuals in need of care. With over a decade of experience in the behavioral health field, Tori began her career as a behavioral health technician, where she developed a deep understanding of patient needs and the recovery journey. She later transitioned into admissions and business development, where her passion for helping others expanded into creating meaningful connections between patients and providers.
Recognizing the power of communication and storytelling, Tori began writing content for behavioral health organizations, which ultimately led her into digital marketing. After gaining experience at multiple agencies, she launched her own company, where she now leads a team focused on advertising strategy, website optimization, and patient engagement for treatment centers across the country. Her work is rooted in aligning marketing efforts with compassionate care, ensuring that individuals seeking help can access the resources they need more quickly and effectively.
Tori is also a certified drug and alcohol counselor, bringing both professional expertise and personal perspective to her work. Having experienced her own recovery journey, she is deeply committed to helping others find healing and support. What do you attribute your success to?
I would say my mom has definitely been probably the biggest influence. Both my parents owned a business as I was growing up, so I saw their work ethic, and it really influenced me. Growing up in a household that has a business in the house, and now that's how I am, you learn a lot as a child seeing that. My mom has been the biggest influence on my success.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say that it can be really discouraging, but find the people that are doing what you want to do, that will build you up instead of tear you down. There can be a lot of negativity, and sometimes it's hard to find those people. I've been the only female in a room with just multiple men many times, and it can be really discouraging, but don't give up. Stick with the people that will build you up, because there can be a lot of negativity in this industry.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is probably educating people on digital marketing and helping them understand that what I do is a long-term process. It's about educating people on the technicalities and the aspects of a successful digital campaign and what goes into that. Some people think it's smoke and mirrors, some people are so focused on other things that they are not willing to take the time, and some people just don't understand. The education piece is a challenge. Also, AI is great, but it's hard to understand, and it feels like a rat race right now with what's going on. So I think that education piece is the biggest challenge.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Transparency is most important to me, I think. Especially in this industry that I'm in, there's a lot of cutting corners, and I think just being open and honest about everything goes a lot longer. Also, giving back is a huge value of mine, like training other women to do what I do, because I think that there can be a big career path in tech for women who don't have a college degree. And then just being nice, you know? There's not a lot of nice people in the world, so that matters to me.
