Her Story

About totiana

Totiana Garcia has been in the accounting industry since 2021 and currently serves as an accounting consultant at Armanino, a position she has held since the company merged with her previous employer, SAOS (Strategic Outsource Accounting Solutions), in July of last year. She had been with SAOS since March 2023. Her main areas of expertise include investment accounting, system-to-system reconciliation, and family office work. In her current role, she manages a $2.5 billion portfolio for a family office, where she has implemented significant operational improvements to maximize efficiency. She has successfully integrated clients into systems like Intact and Bill.com, oversees vendor management, and has helped improve the family's real estate and investment holdings while making their tax processes easier. Her work has resulted in the quickest year-end turnover the firm has achieved, based on reporting and system processes. Garcia earned her bachelor's degree in business management with a concentration in accounting from Westfield State University in 2020. She was inspired to enter the accounting field because of the transferability of skills and the stability it offers in a capitalistic society. Outside of work, she is a travel lifestyle content creator with a passion for art, including music, drawing, sketching, and painting. She is also a devoted mother who spends quality time with her son.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with totiana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to my son. I grew up very poor and in foster care, and unfortunately I had my son under the same circumstances. I decided that I needed to change my family, so right now I'm working on generational wealth and success, not just for me, but for my children and my children's children. I'm even going backwards now and working to get my parents to where I am, so I'm very family motivated. Everything I do is driven by the desire to break the cycle and create a better future for my family.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say, don't be discouraged. Don't let stigmas or statistics deter you. There's definitely a narrative going into the STEM field that it is a male-dominated area, and there are demographics that do better. There's a boys club, you know, all of those things can be overcome with the right amount of determination, effort, and showing up. Proving to yourself and proving to your coworkers who you are and the value you bring - all of that supersedes the Boys Club and any other stigmas that you might have in getting into the accounting or finance field.
