Her Story
About Tracey
Tracey Crump is a behavioral health nurse, author, and mental health advocate with more than 20 years of experience supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, she provides compassionate, patient-centered care with a focus on crisis intervention, medication administration, and one-to-one behavioral health support. Inspired to pursue a career in healthcare by her aunt's battle with diabetes, Tracey has dedicated her professional life to helping others navigate some of life's most difficult moments with empathy, dignity, and hope.
In 2025, Tracey expanded her impact beyond clinical practice with the release of her memoir, *Unsolicited Advice: My Grief, My Rules*. Written in the wake of the devastating loss of her two sons, the book offers a deeply personal and honest reflection on grief, resilience, and healing. Through her writing and public advocacy, she encourages others to recognize that grief is a unique journey and champions the message that true healing comes not only from enduring loss but also from growing through it. She is also pursuing a Grief Counseling Certification, expected in August 2026, to further strengthen her ability to support individuals and families coping with loss.
Beyond her work as a nurse and author, Tracey is an active advocate for mental health awareness, particularly within underserved communities, and uses her platform to encourage open conversations about emotional well-being and resilience. Her contributions to grief recovery and transformational writing have earned her the International Impact Award and the International Eminence Excellence Award, along with recognition from organizations including the NAACP Awards and The BB Online, where she received an Author of the Year nomination. Guided by the values of honesty and humility, Tracey remains committed to empowering others through compassionate care, authentic storytelling, and lifelong learning.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tracey
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the personal tragedies I have experienced, particularly the loss of my two sons. Writing became an outlet for processing emotions that I had kept bottled up for years, and that journey eventually became my book. Through sharing my story, I found healing while creating a resource that has helped others navigate their own grief. My experiences have strengthened my commitment to mental health advocacy and supporting those facing loss.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to keep my personal life and professional life separate. I learned to leave personal challenges at home so I could remain fully present, focused, and effective while caring for my patients. Maintaining that balance has helped me provide the highest level of care while preserving my own well-being.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to embrace every opportunity to learn, even when it feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar. Every new experience helps build your knowledge, confidence, and resilience. Continue developing your skills, remain open to growth, and never stop learning, because those experiences will prepare you for future success.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest challenges in behavioral health is the unpredictability of patient behavior. Patients experiencing mental health crises can change rapidly, requiring healthcare professionals to think quickly, communicate effectively, and respond appropriately to maintain safety for both patients and staff. Remaining calm, compassionate, and prepared is essential in these situations.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me most are honesty and humility. I believe honesty builds trust, while humility allows us to genuinely connect with and support others. I enjoy being around people who demonstrate these qualities because they create a positive, respectful environment that encourages growth, compassion, and meaningful relationships.
