About Traci

Traci Walker is an associate principal at a high school, entering her fifth year as an administrator. Her path into education began in social work after earning a degree in sociology and social work from Texas Woman's University, followed by work with Child Protective Services. She later pursued a master's in special education from Texas Woman's University, a master's in curriculum and instruction and educational leadership from Texas Wesleyan University, and counseling credentials from Angelo State University, where she practiced counseling for about six years before moving into administration. In her current role, Traci focuses on curriculum and instruction, ensuring students receive the best education possible by supporting teachers with resources, removing barriers, and participating in professional learning community meetings to internalize and practice lessons. She pays particular attention to special education students and emerging bilingual students to promote their success. Traci is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, HABZ, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, organizations that support her leadership development and networking.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Keep the main thing the main thing. My main thing is students. No matter what's going on around me, I look at I'm here for students. That's the main thing.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You need to love children, love students. Treat this like your own child attends the school. Be coachable and trainable, and don't take it personal. That's how we learn and we grow.
