About Tracy

Tracy Hendricks serves as the senior high school advisor and science teacher at River Region Academy, a private K-12 school in Montgomery, Alabama. With over 30 years in the field of education, she has held roles including administrator and director at various centers and schools. Hendricks specializes in international education, globalization, and community-based education. She teaches science and electives such as social justice and global communication, while also working online several days a week teaching conversational and business English to students in South Korea. She holds a master's degree in criminal justice and multiple certifications, and she is currently pursuing a doctorate in education with a concentration in international and globalization. Hendricks attributes her success to the constant encouragement and support from her mother, a single parent who never complained and always pushed her to achieve more, along with overall family support and the mindset that if it is to be, it is up to her. She lives by the career advice that one has never learned everything about a field and should always seek to change rooms and continue learning.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tracy

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from my mother's constant encouragement and support as a single mother who never complained and always pushed me to do more and go farther, like when she said 'why stop there? Be a judge.' Also family support overall, and the mindset that 'if it is to be, it's up to me' along with always seeking to learn more.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You've never learned everything about your field. Once you become the smartest person in that room, gotta change the room. Keep going and always seek more to learn. Also, 'If it is to be, it's up to me' - don't sit around and let somebody else do it.
