Ten minutes with Tracy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being willing to raise my hand, step in where I'm needed, and never stop learning. I've always been genuinely curious and believe that asking questions is one of the best ways to grow and gain a deeper understanding.
Making a career change later in life taught me resilience and reminded me that growth often comes from embracing change and stepping outside your comfort zone. I've built trust by following through on my commitments, caring about the people I work with, and looking for opportunities to support others. I believe that staying curious, being dependable, and maintaining a positive attitude have been the keys to both my personal and professional growth.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to always stay curious. Curiosity has opened doors I never expected and has challenged me to keep learning, ask thoughtful questions, and embrace new opportunities. I believe that as long as I'm learning, I'm growing—both personally and professionally. That mindset has guided my career, helped me navigate change with confidence, and continues to shape who I am today.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the construction industry is to stay curious, be confident, and never be afraid to take up space. Ask questions, speak up, and volunteer for opportunities that help you learn and grow. You don't have to know everything on day one! What matters is your willingness to learn and your work ethic. Your perspective, skills, and voice bring value to this industry, and there's a place for you to make a meaningful impact.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities in the construction industry right now is developing the next generation of talent. As the industry continues to evolve, we have a chance to introduce more young people (especially young women) to the many rewarding career paths construction has to offer.
I'm passionate about being part of that effort through mentorship, education, and community outreach because investing in people is one of the best ways to strengthen the future of our industry.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is the value that guides everything I do. If I say I'm going to do something, I follow through. I take pride in my work, care about the people I work with, and always try to do the right thing, even when no one is watching. I believe being honest, dependable, and treating people with respect builds trust, and that's something I value in both my work and my personal life.
