Her Story

About Tracy

Tracy Schultz serves as a consultant in Orem, Utah, focusing on connecting people, sales, and leadership. She started her professional journey at WordPerfect in 1986 or 1987, becoming the company's 71st employee, and remained there for approximately ten years until the late 1990s. Following WordPerfect's transition, she worked as a product manager during the acquisition by Corel and later pursued entrepreneurial ventures, including a software-related company and a charm jewelry business called Perfectly Charming that she sold in 2008. She also contributed to Bennett Communications and supported the president at UVU before returning to consulting. Tracy earned an associate's degree in secretarial studies, which included training in typing and shorthand. Her success is attributed to the support of her husband and five children. She values honesty, ethics, authenticity, and accountability in her work. Tracy actively volunteers with the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce, assisting with their Women Business Networking group, golf tournaments, Pillar of the Valley events, speaker coordination, and holiday fundraisers providing scholarships to mothers. She advises young women to listen attentively, stand up for themselves, and follow through on commitments.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tracy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think my support from my husband has really been crucial. He was willing to work with me so I could work and maintain our household with our five kids. My kids were really good and helpful too.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Plant your feet where you're at instead of looking back or forward. Make sure you're doing the best job in the position you're at right now. That way when you have an opportunity to move up you have that solid foundation.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Really listen to what people are saying and make sure that you're standing up for yourself. You're just as good as anyone else. Keep listening and follow through with what you say and commit to, and do it well.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

At my age if I wanted to go back to full-time work I might face age discrimination. Also people want me to work more hours than I'm willing like 60 hours or in the office every day. I want flexibility to do my own thing and take care of grandkids while still working.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty, being ethical, authentic, and accountable. If something is wrong I'm not afraid to say it. If I did something wrong I will admit it.
