About Uma
Uma Veluchamy serves as Engineering Lead at Bayer within the Digital Crop Science, Digital Farming Solutions Division. In this role, she leads four teams of approximately 40 engineers and oversees data acquisition processes from ingestion through delivery to growers, supporting the FieldView platform that enables data-driven farm management decisions. Uma began her career in the finance and trading space before joining Bayer as an engineer, drawn by the company's mission. After taking a nine-year career break starting in 2003 to raise her family, she revived her professional path in 2013 and quickly regained her confidence within six months, advancing into engineering management. She holds an undergraduate degree in computer technology, an MBA, and a master's degree, along with AWS certifications, and she is currently enrolled in an eight-week certification course at the University of Chicago. Uma is a strong advocate for continuous learning and mentoring team members who may doubt their abilities, encouraging them to reflect on what truly drives their career satisfaction beyond titles.
