Her Story

About Usha

Usha Nesamoney is a community leader, writer, and emerging advocate for health, well-being, and longevity, bringing a background in consulting, organizational leadership, and philanthropy to her evolving professional journey. A graduate of Yale School of Management, she transitioned from her earlier consulting career into board service and community engagement, drawing on her experience to support educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and initiatives that create meaningful social impact. She serves as President of the Board of Directors of Cantabile Youth Singers of Silicon Valley, President of the Stanford Parents’ Club, a member of Stanford University’s Undergraduate Cabinet, and a trustee of the American India Foundation. Her involvement with Stanford also includes community and medicine-related councils, admissions reading, and initiatives to strengthen the undergraduate experience. Through these roles, Usha has demonstrated a commitment to education, leadership development, philanthropy, and building stronger communities.

In her current professional chapter, which she calls her “second act,” Usha is exploring the relationship between health, identity, purpose, and thriving throughout life's later stages. As the founder of The Second Act, she writes essays, shares memoir-based reflections, and hosts podcast conversations examining how people can redefine success beyond conventional measures such as professional achievement, financial milestones, and status. Her work emphasizes the importance of maintaining physical vitality, intellectual curiosity, emotional well-being, and a sense of purpose as life and career priorities evolve. She is also developing a community forum to encourage conversations about aging and wellness, while collaborating with her cardiologist on an emerging health-stacking concept designed to make personalized health information and care more accessible. The proposed approach combines foundational health testing, AI-assisted interpretation of results, personalized coaching, telehealth resources, and referrals to specialists when appropriate. Additionally, Usha is exploring health data focused on South Asian women over 50, working with a data scientist to investigate potential insights into aging, metabolic health, and longevity. Her continuing education at Stanford, including courses in memoir writing and artificial intelligence, further supports her interest in applying emerging technologies to practical health and wellness challenges.

Usha's approach to leadership and personal growth is grounded in curiosity, service, and the belief that meaningful achievement should contribute to a better world. Inspired by her mother, who remains active and community-minded in her nineties, and her late father, who translated Sanskrit texts into English, she values lifelong learning, family, and leaving a lasting legacy. Her personal health journey, including significant improvements in her blood sugar management, has strengthened her interest in sustainable wellness practices and the importance of taking a proactive approach to aging. She advocates for foundational habits such as strength training, movement, and maintaining a positive mindset, while remaining interested in holistic practices that complement conventional healthcare. Through her writing, podcast, philanthropic commitments, and exploration of AI-enabled health solutions, Usha seeks to help others move beyond traditional definitions of success toward lives characterized by vitality, purpose, and continued contribution. Her work reflects a broader mission to make knowledge more accessible, encourage thoughtful innovation, and help individuals thrive at every stage of life.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my family’s values, which have instilled in me curiosity, purpose, and a commitment to giving back. My 93-year-old mother continues to inspire me through her energy and community involvement, while my father’s work translating Sanskrit books into English taught me the value of knowledge. Surrounded by inspiring people in Silicon Valley, I strive to make each day meaningful, contribute to making the world better, and leave a positive legacy for future generations.
