Her Interview
Ten minutes with Usha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my mom's support and my own hard work. My mom was very supportive even though she was not highly educated, and she encouraged me to pursue education. I worked very hard, often sleeping only 3 or 4 hours while raising two young kids and doing my master's, while also handling all household duties.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice is to make a goal in your mind and pursue it with hard work and focus. My mom told me when I was leaving: whatever your circumstances will be, don't leave this education behind, just do something in that country so you can follow your career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
This is a very good field with lots of opportunities and you will never be jobless. Keep going, work hard, focus, and have dedication. As an international graduate, I love this country because of the independence and opportunities women have here that I would never get in my country.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is that everything is becoming electronic and systems keep changing, so you have to keep learning new systems. There are lots of opportunities with many jobs all over the U.S., including remote work which is a big advantage especially for women who can work from home.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, truthfulness, and sincerity are most important. I am very honest and sincere with my work and in my personal relationships and friendships. I try to be nice to everyone and helpful whenever someone needs it. My manager knows I go beyond and work more hours to finish work or help.
