Valencia H. Miller, M.E.d is a visionary nonprofit leader and criminal justice reform advocate with over 25 years of experience designing programs that uplift families, restore justice-involved youth, and transform communities. As the Founder and Executive Director of SKIP Georgia Chapter Inc., Valencia has spearheaded innovative initiatives such as Ready, Set, SKIP! and Double Dutch Aerobics, creating opportunities for youth empowerment, social-emotional learning, and family reunification. Her work emphasizes trauma-informed approaches, storytelling that inspires action, and strategic partnerships across schools, government agencies, and community organizations.
Valencia’s career began in education and corporate human resources, transitioning into statewide criminal justice reform as a Reentry Program Manager under the Governor’s Office of Transition Support and Reentry. She designed pilot frameworks to support justice-impacted individuals and their families, focusing on community engagement and stakeholder collaboration. Drawing on her experience as a Title I school Parent Involvement Coordinator, she founded SKIP Georgia to support children of incarcerated parents and prevent cycles of multi-generational incarceration, bridging gaps between the justice system, schools, and families.
A strong advocate for self-awareness and leadership through service, Valencia credits her success to her parents’ guidance and her commitment to innovation and authenticity. She encourages young women entering the field to reflect on their inner strengths, find their unique voice, and embrace trailblazing opportunities. Beyond her professional endeavors, Valencia enjoys traveling, reading, participating in book clubs, and caring for her 95-year-old mother, blending personal dedication with her professional mission to create meaningful impact.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of vision, innovation, and the guidance of my parents, who instilled in me the value of education, service, and perseverance. Their support and example inspired me to recognize my leadership potential and to pursue meaningful work that positively impacts families and communities.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to follow my true path and embrace roles that allow me to innovate and create, rather than simply filling existing positions. Recognizing my unique strengths and passions has helped me thrive in trailblazing roles throughout my career.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to practice self-awareness and reflect on their inner qualities. Take the time to identify your strengths, voice, and unique skills — not just external perceptions — and let them guide your purpose and career path. Authenticity and clarity in your goals will lead to alignment and success.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges are addressing multi-generational cycles of incarceration and designing programs that effectively support justice-impacted families. At the same time, there are tremendous opportunities to build cross-sector partnerships, implement trauma-informed approaches, and scale youth prevention programs that transform lives.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Compassion, integrity, innovation, and service are central to both my work and personal life. I value self-reflection, family, and creating meaningful impact in communities while fostering healing and empowerment for those I serve.
