About Valentina

Valentina Carreno serves as a recruiter in finance and accounting at a staffing agency based in Orlando, Florida. She has been in this position for about nine months after pivoting from her prior role at Oracle, where she worked as a software consultant and earlier in sales. Valentina studied cognitive science, a field blending psychology and computer science, which informs her interest in merging topics and understanding human perception. In her work, she focuses on growing finance and accounting teams for clients while consulting candidates on their career steps, bridging sales and consulting aspects daily. She values being human first and applicant-centric, taking time to understand pain points rather than simply matching people to roles. Valentina notes that Orlando's professional growth offers networking opportunities, though challenges include offshoring and AI displacing candidates, and she helps them find suitable positions. Her career advice centers on believing in oneself and continually challenging oneself to learn, and she encourages young women entering the field to pursue it for the technical skills, interpersonal abilities, adaptability, and constant engagement it provides.

Ten minutes with Valentina

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Believing in yourself. If it scares you in a good way, just do it. Always continue to challenge yourself because you'll always learn.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do it because you learn so many skills, technical skills but also how to talk to people, how to listen to people, how to adapt per person. Being quick on your feet, never being bored.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Orlando is growing professionally with companies moving here, great for growing network. But bigger companies are offshoring accounting and finance or using AI, displacing great candidates. Helping them find jobs without big pay cuts or moving far.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being human first, applicant-centric. Truly taking the time to understand people and their pain points, not just matching them up. Being true to yourself.
