About Valentina
Valentina Hill serves as a supervisor in the field of social work and leadership. With 8 to 9 years of experience in the industry, all of which has been with nonprofit organizations, she has worked her way up from the bottom to her current role after a company transfer prompted her application when a prior program closed. Valentina holds a Master's in Business Administration along with a bachelor's degree and is currently working toward obtaining her LCCA license, which is required for Texas. In her position, she manages cases, conducts audits to verify that families have access to resources, communicates effectively with clients, and ensures all deadlines are met. She attributes her success to an inner drive to grow professionally and influence others positively, emphasizing the importance of women supporting one another rather than competing. Valentina has received certificates of recognition and good employee recognitions for her contributions. She advises aspiring professionals in the field to never stop learning, avoid remaining in their comfort zone, and embrace constructive criticism, while stressing the need for strong boundaries and self-confidence in this vulnerable industry facing stability challenges due to reliance on government grants.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Valentina
01What do you attribute your success to?
I feel that inside, there's a leader that wants to influence people and be better at work and as a person. I believe we can support each other as women and develop skills together instead of going against each other.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never stop learning. Don't stay in your comfort zone. Always keep accepting positive, constructive criticism.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
For social work, first they have to try to be strong, their mind strong, because it is a very vulnerable field. It is hard sometimes for workers to keep their boundaries with the community. Boundaries is what is gonna let you be aware of yourself, take control of yourself, and don't feel bad about situations. Be confident and trust more in yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Stability, because everything is under grants, government grants, so the social work industry in the U.S. varies based on the credit you get.
