As Project Director at J.A. Watts, Inc., she serves as an owner’s representative, guiding projects from concept through execution. Her expertise spans cost estimation, project coordination, and program delivery, with a proven ability to manage large-scale initiatives on time and within budget. Valeria’s work has impacted landmark programs, including multiple projects at O’Hare Airport, Nashville International Airport, White Sox Stadium, and major airline facilities, demonstrating her commitment to excellence and meticulous attention to detail. Beyond her technical expertise, Valeria is a dedicated mentor, speaker, and advocate for women in construction. As Immediate Past President of NAWIC Chicago Metro Chapter #325 and founder of Constructing Her Foundation, she empowers young women entering the industry through mentorship, workshops, and public speaking. She is widely recognized for her philosophy of self-advocacy, exemplified by her “Take Credit Thursday” initiative, encouraging professionals to confidently acknowledge and communicate their contributions. What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to know your documents — whether drawings, specifications, or contracts — thoroughly. Build the confidence to speak up once you understand the material, and don’t be afraid to share your insights. Above all, stay committed to continuous learning and seek out mentorship opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.
