Her Story
About Valerie
I'm currently a sales executive at a technology company, and I've been in this industry for 7 years. Prior to technology, I was in hospitality, so it's two different worlds. What led me to technology was the challenge, the different industry that I knew I could grow within, that I could learn, that I could help businesses evolve with my knowledge and be that person that could make a difference within someone's business. I'm great at talking to people and selling a product that is needed in their business. I always turn clients into friends because it's not only about building a relationship business-wise, but you're building a human connection where that evolves to actual friendships. I've had clients that become not only clients, but friends as well, and I think that's the beautiful impact through all this - that I'm able to create that business aspect, but also create that connection as human, as friends, that we're here to help one another. I love what I do currently because of that role, because I'm making a difference, even in the small difference, but it's something that I knew I could bring that light to someone.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I want to be better than I was yesterday. I want to be that impact and tell myself that I'm capable to do anything I want. With that success comes being able to help my family, and specifically my dad. My dad became paraplegic 3 years ago, and right now he's in Colombia getting treatments. That's one of the big aspects - being able to help him within that journey of himself that's not easy, just being there for him as a daughter. I'm fulfilling my purpose. I know that I'm here for a big reason, and I'm here to fulfill it, and I'm learning myself along the way, what I like and what I want to do. I constantly listen to podcasts, I'm looking at things like new tools, psychology and speaking aspects, just improving myself in every aspect. I always tell myself, I'm leading myself, but I know God is leading the way. I'm striving to be better.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to women in the technology industry is to believe in their abilities. Embrace the challenges, because there's going to be there, but never be afraid to take a seat at the table. Every obstacle could become an opportunity for growth, and with determination, with just inspiration that who you are, just being authentic, you could achieve more than you could imagine. The mind is such a powerful aspect, so if you put yourself out there, and you know that you can make a difference, and you have that knowledge and that connection, you can make anything possible, as long as you put that in your mind.
