About Valerie

Valerie Dennis is a Master Esthetician, entrepreneur, and beauty and wellness professional based in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with more than a decade of experience in the aesthetics industry. She began her career by completing a 600-hour basic aesthetics program and earning her initial license before pursuing advanced training. After taking time away from the industry to raise her children, she returned to school and completed a Master Esthetics program at Eastern Virginia Career College. Her professional background includes leadership and esthetics roles at Massage Envy and Healthy Beginnings Wellness & Esthetics, as well as serving as a Licensed Master Esthetician Instructor and Program Director at Eastern Virginia Career College.

In 2019, Valerie reopened her business, Dermalessence, where she combines hands-on skincare expertise with a personalized, education-focused approach to client care. She specializes in acne and sensitive skin and has pursued additional training in areas including hormonal changes and menopause, oncology aesthetics, and acne treatment. Her professional credentials include Oncology Certified Esthetician certification and Face Reality Acne Specialist certification. She has also served as a Circadia Ambassador/Educator, reflecting her commitment to professional education and staying current with developments in skincare and aesthetics.

Beyond client services, Valerie has expanded her work into education and community engagement through the Dermalessence Esthetics Institute, where she mentors and educates aspiring esthetics professionals. She has also led skincare education initiatives for young people, including a Teen Skincare 101 workshop focused on skin health, self-care, and confidence. Her dedication to continuing education, client care, and professional development has contributed to recognition for Dermalessence as a 2026 Best of the Burg finalist. Valerie credits her supportive community, family, and friends for helping her build her business and encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to conduct thorough research, remain persistent, and continue showing up through challenges.

Ten minutes with Valerie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success largely to my community and support system. My family, friends, and the positive people around me have encouraged me through challenges, self-doubt, and moments of imposter syndrome, helping me stay confident, resilient, and motivated to keep moving forward.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is simple: keep showing up. Every career and entrepreneurial journey has challenges and uncertainty, but staying focused, quieting negative thoughts, and refusing to give up can help you push through difficult seasons and eventually find a way forward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My biggest advice to young women entering my industry is to do your research before getting started. Understand your industry, learn what entrepreneurship truly requires, and surround yourself with supportive people. Most importantly, make sure it’s something you genuinely want to pursue and are prepared to commit to.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges affecting my field right now is the economy, as economic pressures are impacting both individuals and businesses.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are kindness, acceptance, inclusivity, love, and positivity. I strive to make others feel included, approach relationships with compassion, and lead by example by bringing a positive and loving mindset to both my work and personal life.
