Her Story

About Valerie

Valerie Tufaro serves as a Clinical Account Executive on the digital patient recruitment team at Everyday Health Group under the Pregnancy and Parenting Division of the Ziff Davis brand. She brings five years of experience in clinical trial recruitment across three companies to her current role, which she has held for about four months. Her career began in group sales in the sports and tourism industries, including positions selling tickets for the New Jersey Devils and at One World Trade Center, before transitioning to clinical research during the COVID period. Tufaro earned a degree in marketing with a minor in sports and entertainment business from Iona College, now Iona University, and has contributed to the school's mentor program for approximately seven to eight years. She attributes her drive to her mother's example as a single parent and finds additional motivation from her two stepchildren. In her work, Tufaro emphasizes keeping the human element central, particularly when addressing sensitive topics such as cancer and pregnancy in clinical campaigns.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Valerie

01What do you attribute your success to?

My drive comes from my mom who raised two kids as a single mother with incredible pride and self-reliance. She made everything work without asking for help. Now with two stepkids in my life for about three years, they motivate me even more - every sale could mean a vacation or sports equipment for them. This through line of determination and family focus drives everything I do.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Clinical research is technical and deals with sensitive topics like cancer and pregnancy. The biggest challenge is keeping the human element top of mind for pharma clients who focus on medical jargon, ensuring campaigns have warmth and sensitivity when reaching pregnancy and parenting audiences.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Fulfillment and inherent passion must be part of every day. I try to do the right thing and keep participants' and patients' voices top of mind. Clinical research is based on people participating to advance medical research for the greater good, so I embed that mindset and strive to be a good person doing the right thing.
