Valerie Uskoski
Valerie Uskoski is the Principal Engineer and President of Hayward Uskoski and Associates, Inc., where she brings over a decade of experience in civil engineering and land use planning. Throughout her career, she has provided innovative solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial projects across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Valerie is recognized for her ability to manage complex projects efficiently, applying practical, cost-conscious approaches to engineering and environmental challenges while advocating for her clients at every stage of development.
Valerie earned her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University and holds professional engineering licenses in Montana, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska. Over the years, she has built a broad portfolio that spans public and private roadway design, stormwater and water quality systems, site grading, erosion control, and construction management. Beyond her technical expertise, Valerie is known for cultivating strong relationships and collaborations within the communities she serves, ensuring projects run smoothly and stakeholders are well-supported.
Outside of her professional work, Valerie pursues a variety of adventurous interests, including rock and ice climbing and rebuilding cars. She is also an active volunteer with organizations such as the Future Automotive Engineers (FAE), sharing her knowledge and mentoring the next generation of innovators. Her combination of technical excellence, leadership, and commitment to community engagement has established her as a respected figure in the civil engineering and land development industries.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my persistence and determination; I am never willing to take no for an answer and always strive to find a way forward.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering my industry not to be afraid to try and fail. When setbacks happen, face them with class and resilience, and keep moving forward with strength and determination.
