Dr. Vanessa Blakley, DM, SHRM-CP, is an accomplished Human Resources professional and organizational leader based in Sacramento, California. With a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix and an MBA in Human Resources Management from Saint Mary’s College of California, Dr. Blakley has built a dynamic career centered on people, performance, and purposeful leadership. Her expertise spans human capital strategy, operations management, and organizational development, with a focus on helping businesses strengthen their culture and optimize workforce potential.
Dr. Blakley most recently served as an HR Business Partner at the University of the Pacific – McGeorge School of Law, where she led initiatives in employee engagement, policy development, and leadership coaching. Her experience also extends to business management consulting, where she supports organizations in navigating operational change and implementing effective HR systems. Recognized for her forward-thinking approach, she recently earned a certification in Strategic AI Leadership in Business from Hacking HR, showcasing her commitment to integrating innovation and technology into human resource practices.
Continuing her mission to elevate HR excellence, Dr. Blakley will be launching her new business, HR PROS.ON LINE, in January 2026. This venture will offer strategic consulting, professional development, and virtual HR solutions designed to empower organizations and professionals alike. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a higher power that has continuously guided my path. My faith plays a central role in my journey, and I’m a firm believer that spirituality provides the strength, clarity, and purpose that drive everything I do.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I don’t recall receiving specific career advice, as I never had a mentor guiding me along the way. Instead, that experience inspired me to become a mentor for others. Throughout my journey, I’ve leaned on the wisdom and support of my mother and my community—they’ve been my foundation and source of encouragement.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to carefully evaluate the company you want to work for—make sure their values, culture, and vision align with your own. Understanding where the organization is headed is just as important as knowing your own goals. And don’t be afraid to pivot when necessary; growth often comes from knowing when to change direction.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the field right now is maintaining compliance and integrity within homegrown HR practices. As organizations continue to evolve, ensuring ethical standards and consistent adherence to regulations is critical. At the same time, there’s growing uncertainty—and opportunity—around the role of artificial intelligence in HR. While some fear how AI might change traditional processes, I see it as a chance to enhance efficiency, improve decision-making, and strengthen the human experience at work when used responsibly.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me—both professionally and personally—are people, diversity, health, wellness, and overall well-being. I believe that when we prioritize people and create inclusive environments where everyone feels valued, we build stronger teams and communities. Maintaining balance through health and wellness is equally essential, as it allows us to bring our best selves to everything we do.
