Her Interview
Ten minutes with Vanessa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to working hard and to my parents. My mom and dad have been really supportive and helped us get to where we are now. I also attribute it to always wanting to learn and grow as much as possible.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
In my master's program they told me that pestering isn't real. If you want something, just go for it. The more you follow up and put yourself out there, the more people will know how serious and ambitious you are. As a woman creating a company with two other girls, that's been really important.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Identify your problem and make sure what you are solving feels valid to you and that you are passionate about it. No matter what, people are not gonna like your idea and there are always gonna be doubts. So just go for it. You really just have to do it because at the end of the day the people that are gonna believe in you are you and the people starting your company.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
There is so much room to grow and so many resources we have yet to tap into. The biggest challenges are FDA regulations, people not believing in our idea, and doctors who are creatures of habit not wanting to let innovation into their field.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
It's really important to learn how to collaborate across a cross-disciplinary team. It's important to truly listen and open yourself up. Business is very much a personal thing especially when creating a company, so always being open and doing a great job listening.
