Her Story
About Vanessa
My career journey has been guided by a passion for helping my community. I pursued a degree in health promotions with a minor in education, coming from a family of educators but wanting to focus on community health education. During my undergrad years, I was blessed to work with United Blood Services, El Paso Diabetes Association, and Hospitals of El Paso in roles ranging from blood donations coordinator to health educator. After my master's, I taught health career classes as a substitute, then worked with LifeTouch School Photography building relationships with schools and administrators. When the pandemic hit, I taught third grade with students both in-person and online. I then worked with MDDIP helping doctors transition to concierge practices, traveling across the country for 9-week assignments. Now I work in radiology marketing and sales, and while I knew nothing about radiology when I started, I've learned so much about the intricate details of different imaging studies. What drives me most is empowering women through mammogram campaigns, removing the fear and stigma, and helping patients navigate the healthcare system. I'm the face of my company in the community, building relationships with providers and ensuring patients get the care they need.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I believe strongly in self-care and not neglecting yourself, especially as a woman trying to balance work, motherhood, and family responsibilities. You have to take care of yourself first before you can take care of anyone else, because if you're not okay, then you're not going to be okay to take care of everything else. You can't pour from an empty cup. I think we've lived in a society for so long where women felt selfish if we were doing something good for ourselves, but women shouldn't feel bad about taking care of themselves. We're trying to live longer, healthier lives, so it is important to be proactive and get those checkups. I also believe everything happens for a reason and we're put in a certain place at a certain time. What drives me most is that sense of fulfillment from changing people's lives and saving lives. The small gratitude from patients, like when someone says 'you're awesome' or 'we're so blessed to have you,' that's what makes me get more inspired for what I do every day.
