Her Story

About Vanessa

My journey in music started with poetry as a kid, but everything changed when I was a teenager going through family trauma and discovered Eminem. I fell in love with how he could express himself and his emotions through music, and I realized I could do this too. I started rapping to his instrumentals and got pretty good at it. I went to college and got a degree in business and marketing as my plan B, then came back and poured blood, sweat, and tears into my family business. After my family sold the business, I've spent the last 2 years really diving into music and building my brand. What most rappers don't realize is the business side of it is so much more important. Every day involves making sure my metadata is correct on 20 different platforms, staying on top of writing, collaborations, networking, it's just a constant rotation of things that keep moving. I've been featured on Mambo in the Morning, the biggest radio hip-hop station here in Ventura County, I was recently in the Camarillo newspaper called the ACORN, and I do a lot of performances for Chumash Casino at their boxing events. I've received nominations for Best Female Artist and Best Hip Hop artist in Ventura County.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

First thing I do when I wake up is meditation, one hand on the heart, one hand on the belly, with my affirmations. I start with I am safe, and I am healthy, and I am loved, and I am wealthy, and all the things I want, and I see them, and I visualize them. I've really focused on making sure my nervous system is together, because I can't function doing everything else I need to do if I'm not right mentally and emotionally. I also value helping others - there might be a female artist who sees my feature and is inspired, so any way I can help is important to me.
