Her Story
About Vanessa
I’m a healthcare staffing professional and student who values connection, clarity, and doing meaningful work. I work as an Account Manager and Recruitment Specialist with Express Healthcare Staffing, supporting healthcare facilities across Iowa by helping them find reliable clinical coverage when it’s needed most.
I’m currently working toward a degree in Healthcare Administration and enjoy learning ways to improve systems, communication, and everyday efficiency. I believe good leadership starts with listening, staying curious, and treating people with respect.
I’m grounded in faith, gratitude, and reflection, and I try to approach both work and life with intention and heart. For me, success isn’t just about titles or achievements. It’s about making a positive impact, building trust, and showing up for others in a way that feels genuine and aligned.

Ten minutes with Vanessa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to consistency, self-awareness, and being willing to learn as I go. I’ve learned to stay curious, ask questions, and not be afraid to start before I feel completely ready. I also give a lot of credit to resilience. Life hasn’t always been linear for me, but each experience has shaped how I show up with patience, empathy, and intention. I’ve learned to trust timing, stay disciplined, and keep moving forward even when growth feels uncomfortable.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I’ve received is to focus on being reliable and teachable before trying to be impressive. Skills can always be developed, but integrity, accountability, and attitude are what build long-term trust. That advice helped me stop chasing perfection and instead focus on showing up consistently and doing my work well.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women to trust their voice and take up space, even when they feel unsure. You don’t have to know everything to belong in the room. Be willing to learn, ask questions, and advocate for yourself, even when it feels uncomfortable. Setting boundaries early is not a weakness. It’s a form of self-respect that protects your growth and your peace.
It’s okay to grow at your own pace and to take the long way if that’s what builds depth and confidence. Not every path is meant to be rushed, and not every season is meant to look impressive from the outside. Comparison will only distract you from your own calling, but confidence built through lived experience, resilience, and consistency will carry you far.
Most importantly, stay aligned with who you are. Success feels hollow when it costs you your values or your voice. When you lead with integrity, humility, and heart, the right opportunities will find you, and you’ll grow into them with strength and purpose.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is navigating constant change while trying to protect both quality of care and personal well-being. Healthcare staffing is fast-paced and often reactive, and there are moments when the pressure feels heavy. Burnout is real, not just for clinicians, but for those of us working behind the scenes to support them. I’m still learning how to pace myself, set boundaries, and stay grounded while meeting high expectations.
At the same time, this challenge has created meaningful opportunity. It’s pushing me, and the industry as a whole, to think more intentionally about how we support people, not just positions. There’s a growing emphasis on flexibility, transparency, and proactive planning, and I see this as a chance to lead with empathy while continuing to grow personally and professionally. I believe the most impactful progress happens when we allow ourselves to be learners, embrace growth with humility, and build systems that care for the people within them. Even in the struggle, there is purpose, and that’s where lasting change begins.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, compassion, and alignment are most important to me. I value honesty, clear communication, and treating people with respect in every setting. I also value balance and self-reflection. I believe success feels most fulfilling when your work aligns with who you are, your values, and how you want to impact others.
