Her Story

About Vanessa

I opened my own business, ThriveWorks Consulting, last fall at the end of August. What I love to do is streamline processes and be as efficient as possible. Within my roles when I was an employee, I was naturally doing that, moving into leadership and getting involved in training. When I changed careers and went into banking, I was assisting small businesses with troubleshooting those types of things. I'm always troubleshooting and problem-solving. I noticed that a lot of small business owners don't have a lot of support or are trying to do it on their own. While they're really good at what they're really good at, there are a few other things that may not be their strengths, like being organized, the filing, the bookkeeping, the financials, and even the connection and pointing them in the right direction on social media and marketing. In my area, we're helping out these small business owners be a little more successful so they can focus on what they're good at.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Vanessa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my mentors, for sure. Like, my cheerleaders within the system and everything.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received was: If not you, then who?

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say be bold when you want to be bold. It's about what you can do when you're resourceful. Always ask the question and seek things out. A lot of people are kind of waiting for things to come to them, or waiting for a solution to appear. You gotta go get it yourself. You don't have to be the smartest person in the room, but I'm surprised at how dumb these people are that are in those rooms.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges or opportunities in my field right now are bookkeeping, social media, and marketing. That's the most that businesses need help with.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is the most important value to me. That's like my number one.
