Ten minutes with Vasheti
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to determination, decisive action, and resilience. When I’m faced with a challenge, I don’t hesitate—I move. I’ve learned that waiting for perfect information often leads to missed opportunities, so I make aligned decisions quickly and adjust as needed. I focus on creating momentum. Rather than seeing roadblocks as endpoints, I approach them with curiosity and strategy—asking what needs to shift, what’s possible, and how to keep moving forward. Having faced significant challenges in my own life, I carry a deep belief that obstacles are not the end of the story. That perspective has shaped how I lead, how I solve problems, and how I continue to grow.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I’ve received is to stop waiting until I feel “fully ready” and start taking aligned action. In the nonprofit sector especially, it’s easy to get caught in overthinking or trying to perfect every detail before moving forward. What I’ve learned is that clarity comes through action. The leaders who create the most impact are the ones willing to move forward with conviction, adjust along the way, and trust their ability to figure things out. That mindset has allowed me to build momentum, seize opportunities, and lead with confidence—even in uncertain situations.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Learn how to advocate for your value early. Many women in the nonprofit space are deeply committed to the mission, but often undervalue their own contributions. Your leadership, your ideas, and your time are incredibly valuable—and the more you recognize that, the more effectively you can lead and create impact. I would also encourage you to build strong systems and boundaries from the beginning. Passion alone isn’t enough to sustain a career in this field. When you pair purpose with structure, strategy, and self-respect, you create a foundation for long-term success without burnout.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the nonprofit sector is the continued reliance on reactive fundraising—organizations operating in urgency rather than strategy. This leads to burnout, inconsistent revenue, and limited long-term planning. At the same time, this creates a powerful opportunity. There is a growing shift toward sustainable fundraising systems, diversified revenue streams, and more conscious leadership. Organizations that embrace this shift—by investing in strategy, infrastructure, and leadership development—are positioning themselves to not only survive, but truly thrive.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, sustainability, and empowerment. I believe in doing work that aligns with my values and creates meaningful impact without compromising wellbeing. Sustainability is at the core of everything I do—whether it’s building fundraising systems or supporting leaders, the goal is always long-term success, not short-term gain. Empowerment is equally important to me. I’m passionate about helping women step into their leadership fully, trust their voice, and build something that reflects their vision—not just external expectations.
