Her Story

About Veronica

Veronica Gilroy brings more than 26 years of experience to her work in long-term care gerontology. She began her journey in healthcare as a candy striper at St. Barnabas Hospital during high school. After deciding she no longer wanted to pursue nursing, she moved into the business side of the industry, attending business school and earning her college degrees through night and weekend classes while raising her children. Today she oversees seven departments, where she is known for her ability to handle difficult families effectively while maintaining budget discipline. Veronica credits her success to her communication skills, noting that she listens first, avoids overreacting, and works to give people the best possible outcomes. She often shares the career advice she received to never give up, because one day success will come.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Veronica

01What do you attribute your success to?

Patience. I've grown better with communication. I'm great with communication. I have the ability, you know, sometimes people just want to be heard. I tend to listen first. Never overreact. I'll hear them all, and then we'll discuss whatever they're facing, you know, when it's a problem or an internal issue in the facility. I try to give them the best result without making them feel as though, you know.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never give up. But one day you will succeed.
