Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the incredible mentors who have guided me throughout my journey. Merle Dean Baker, who drafted Title IX, was fundamental to my development. Susana Oki was also instrumental in helping me come to the U.S. Laura Bosch, the former assistant volleyball coach at Michigan State and current director of the U.S. Volleyball Mideast region, has been a tremendous mentor. Sue Carter from Michigan State was a huge mentor to me when I was there - the dean even had my poster on his office door because of the relationships I built. And of course, on a personal level, my mom has been my foundation. These people believed in me and opened doors that changed my life. Coach Chuck Irby's call offering me that scholarship to Michigan State was the call that changed everything. I've learned that you do business with people first, and building those genuine relationships with mentors, professors, and the right people has been the key to every opportunity I've had.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say be consistent and disciplined in what you do, and pursue your dream. For me, that was the key. I knew what my dream was, and I was consistent in preparing for it both intellectually and emotionally - and I aligned myself with the right people who could help me get to that dream. You have to build relationships with people, because you do business with people first. One of the most important things, especially for student athletes and international students, is to really use the resources that your school provides. Your teachers and professors are your connection to the world. That's what happened to me. I was able to build relationships with the teachers and professors at the university, and they were the ones that prepared me for the real world. As an international student, I couldn't work outside the university, so the professors helped me find strategies and ultimately find a sponsor to work here in the U.S. Get your community involved - your teachers and professors are your main community. I got the dean involved at my school. If I could do it as an international student, imagine what you can do as an American student. You have to maximize your opportunities.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important value to me is making a meaningful impact on people's lives, especially athletes and children. My biggest accomplishment isn't just one achievement - it's feeling when the athlete is happy, when they're content and taken care of. That's what drives me. When I connected a player with Miami Scores and CONCACAF to help children in Title I schools learn soccer while doing poetry, that was one of my biggest accomplishments because it has meaning to me - it's about children and legacy. I want to help athletes build their legacy after their sports careers, and I want to work with causes that combine sports and academics for children. I'm drawn to organizations and work that align with my passion and mission. I can only give my trust and energy to platforms and partners who validate and believe in the same things I do. It's about finding people who share the same passion, so we can grow together and truly change lives - both the athletes' lives and the community.
