Ten minutes with Veronica

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to curiosity, resilience, tenacity, and a commitment to continuous learning. I began my career as a bank teller in 2016 and worked my way up to becoming a Senior Mortgage Underwriter by embracing every opportunity to learn, grow, and take on new challenges. Along the way, I've had the privilege of rebuilding departments, training colleagues, and mentoring others, and I've learned that true leadership isn't about a title—it's about helping people understand not just what to do, but why it matters. I believe that staying teachable, investing in others, and approaching every challenge with determination are the keys to long-term success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to always stay true to myself, my values, and my purpose. I've learned that integrity and authenticity are far more important than trying to meet someone else's expectations, and that while trust is essential, it should always be paired with wisdom and discernment. Those principles have guided my career, shaped the relationships I've built, and helped me make decisions with confidence and purpose.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to stay curious and never stop learning. Embrace every opportunity to build your knowledge, develop new skills, and grow both personally and professionally. Be confident in your abilities, maintain your professionalism, and don't be afraid to document your accomplishments and advocate for yourself. Most importantly, stay true to your values and remember that every challenge, relationship, and experience is preparing you for opportunities you may not even see yet.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities in the mortgage and financial services industry right now is for women to step into leadership roles and continue shaping the future of the profession. I've been fortunate to work alongside exceptional female leaders who showed me that strong leadership is built on knowledge, integrity, collaboration, and a willingness to mentor others. I also believe there's tremendous value in cross-functional learning—gaining experience across different areas of the business builds confidence, develops transferable skills, and prepares you for new opportunities. By staying committed to continuous learning and helping others succeed, we can create stronger teams and a stronger industry.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family is the foundation of my life and my greatest source of motivation. In both my work and personal life, I value integrity, authenticity, compassion, service, and community. I believe true success isn't measured only by professional accomplishments, but by the positive impact we have on the lives of others. I'm passionate about giving back, mentoring others, and helping my teammates reach their full potential because I believe that when we lift others up, we strengthen our organizations and our communities. I strive to approach every opportunity with humility, gratitude, and a desire to leave people feeling more confident and empowered than when we first met.
