About Vibha

I've been working in UX product design for almost 5 years now, and it's been an incredible journey. I completed my master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin in information studies, with a specialization in human-computer interaction, which I received in 2015. During my time in Austin, I became part of the UXPA Club of Austin, the user experience group here, which has been a great professional community for me. One of the highlights was being invited to be a judge for a design-a-thon at UT Austin - it's like a hackathon but specifically for designers, and it was organized by the design team at the university. When I look ahead to where I want to be in 5 years, I see myself continuing in this field but really contributing to the design community in a meaningful way, especially through mentoring junior designers. When I started off, the major challenge I had was getting good mentorship, so I really value that and want to be at a position where I can actually influence other people in the same field. I'm also deeply passionate about accessibility - I think it's one of the main problems the world is facing right now, and working on projects where I can make products accessible for a lot of people is something I really look forward to.

Ten minutes with Vibha

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think accessibility is one of the main problems that the world is facing right now. In a few years, working on projects where I could make products accessible for a lot of people is something that I look forward to. It's an area where there's a real opportunity to make a meaningful impact and help ensure that technology and design serve everyone, not just some people.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Mentorship is something I really value. When I started off, the major challenge that I had was getting good mentorship, so I understand how important it is. Being at a position where I can actually influence other people in the same field is something that I look forward to. I also value networking and connecting with other people in the same industry, especially amongst women. I think growing my network is really important to me, and if my work can inspire some people, that would be one of my major goals.
