Her Story

About Victoria

Victoria Diaz is a mathematics student and owner of a home-based beauty business. She earned an Associate's degree in Mathematics from Rio Hondo in 2024 and is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree at Cal State LA, with plans to transfer to Cal State Fullerton for better support. Licensed as an esthetician since 2024, she specializes in skin care, facials, and waxing. In 2025 she obtained her manicurist license and added nail services to her offerings. She operates her beauty business by appointment only while also working part-time at a restaurant. Victoria attributes her success to her faith in God, her mother, grandmother, and aunt, who demonstrated hard work and resilience. She values honesty, trust, respect, and faith above all. Her mother's advice to never quit has been a guiding force, and she encourages young women entering the beauty industry not to be discouraged by its oversaturation, believing there is a client for everyone with unique gifts. Her goals include becoming an actuary while maintaining her beauty business and eventually opening her own salon suite.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Victoria

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith in God, my mother, and the strong women around me including my grandmother and aunt who raised me and showed me what hard work looks like. My mother worked as a server all her life to support me, my grandmother cleaned houses and woke up at 4am for the donut shop, and even people I've met have contributed to who I am today. It truly takes a village.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is from my mother who always says never quit. Even when I get overwhelmed and feel like crying, I hear her in the back of my mind saying don't quit, you know what you're doing, keep going.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women entering the beauty business not to get discouraged because it is oversaturated. There is a client out there for them because of their unique gifts. Do not quit, and always believe you can do everything you want as long as God is by your side.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In the beauty business, being home-based is a challenge because I would love my own suite for my own space. In mathematics, I wasn't getting much support at Cal State LA despite trying tutoring and asking professors, so I'm switching schools to Cal State Fullerton for a better environment.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are honesty, trust, respect, and above all, faith.
