About Victoria
I've been teaching health occupations for 35 years and pivoted into consulting to help new teachers break into the field from healthcare. My typical day starts at 4 AM with consulting work before teaching 9th through 12th graders from 7 to 3, followed by evening work on virtual reality health programs, item writing, and textbook reviews. I focus on creating engaging activities because student attention spans have shortened, and I hold students to high standards to push them to want to learn.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Students are your number one and the reason for everything you do. If you keep that in the back of your mind, you'll always make the right decisions with curriculum and all of your side jobs.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Student engagement levels have progressively gotten shorter, so teachers need to get more creative and develop activities that keep students engaged. Today's learners don't learn from slideshows and notes like I did, so we have to design curriculum for more engaging teaching and learning.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Hold students to a higher standard and push them. Having them want to be pushed and want to learn is the key, and if you can get students to want to learn then you've really done something.
