Her Story

About Victoria

Over the past eight years, I have built a career at the intersection of technology, business strategy, and operations. For the last four years I have been at PlayStation, where I lead subscription optimization. My path here was not traditional. I studied global studies, global security, geospatial analytics, Spanish and Arabic at Temple University with every intention of becoming a diplomat. Instead, I brought that global mindset into the tech world.

I started out in the high-velocity, chaotic days of early-stage GoPuff, managing geospatial analysis. From there, I moved to the international law firm Morgan & Lewis to consult on commercial pricing strategy. I then landed at Comcast to work on the Xfinity Flex streaming product. That role hooked me on the entertainment and subscription space. It offered the perfect mix of a fast-moving, entrepreneurial startup culture backed by the scale of a major corporation.

When that product evolved into its own company, which is now Xumo, I chose a new challenge and joined PlayStation. My core expertise is strategic problem-solving for the business. I am the go-to person brought in when things go wrong, or better yet, to prevent them from going wrong in the first place. I thrive at the critical nexus where technical architecture, user experience, and commercial business goals meet.

Today, my focus is centered on global leadership. I manage a brilliant team of seven, soon to be eight, spanning London, California, and the Southern U.S. Because our work touches the core of the PlayStation Plus ecosystem, any activity or initiative affecting our subscribers moves through my team. We collaborate closely across engineering, product, marketing, fraud, and legal to champion and architect the ultimate customer journey.

My proudest professional milestone is building this global function from the ground up. I initially joined PlayStation as a revenue lead during the massive merger of PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. I realized we lacked the specialized go-to-market infrastructure needed for agile, quick-to-market launches. Because of this, I pitched the concept of a dedicated optimization team to leadership. We started with just myself and two others, and we have since scaled into an essential, global department driving the customer experience forward.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the people who have supported me along the way. This has not been a singular journey, and I can't credit it solely to my own drive, my education, or circumstances. It comes down to the people who helped me get here. First and foremost is my mother, who was a single teen mom; she motivated me, drove me to reach for every opportunity, and always had my back. My grandmother was also a young mother who went on to become an incredibly successful engineer without a college degree, which heavily shaped my own ambitions.

I have also had incredible mentors throughout my career. Because I work in a heavily male-dominated field, most of my early mentors were men who helped me break into and grow within the industry. The number of times I have been the only woman, or the only mixed-race Black woman in the entire department, is countless, and these mentors helped me navigate those spaces despite the hardships. Additionally, I’ve worked with phenomenal female leaders, including my current senior director, who is a complete powerhouse and an incredible support system. Finally, my husband's support is invaluable—he keeps me grounded, balanced, and focused.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The industry is going through a genuinely challenging period. The rapid introduction and acceleration of AI is impacting studios—especially indie studios—in ways we haven't seen before. However, this disruption brings both challenges and massive opportunities.

The biggest opportunity is the democratization of access. AI is making resources available to creators who previously couldn't make an impact due to high barriers to entry or a lack of funding. Because of this, we are going to see much more diverse, creative, and unique types of games coming to market, which is fantastic for the industry. Concurrently, the tech and gaming sectors at large are facing complex structural hurdles. The rapid shift toward AI has raised widespread concerns regarding job security and shifting workforce demands, while also complicating intellectual property protection and copyright standards globally. The massive computing power required to fuel these new technologies introduces critical environmental and sustainability considerations. Navigating these ethical, legal, and environmental impacts is a massive challenge for companies of all sizes across the entire industry right now.
