01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received was to ensure I am well-versed with company policies and regulations like the WACs, because that will protect my license, residents, and staff members. This has been very true in my regulatory work.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise women not to give up because nursing can be very challenging especially for single moms, but it is very rewarding. Stay positive, stay encouraged, keep going. Be an example, we can be in leadership positions, it takes work but is doable and fulfilling. It sets a good example for our children and other women.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is staff shortage in healthcare. Also gaps in updating policies and procedures to match changing regulations, especially in smaller assisted living communities where one person wears many hats leading to overwhelm and burnout. Opportunity is having dedicated staff for different management responsibilities.
