About Victoria
Victoria Thomas serves as the shipping lead at Noveski Rifle Works in the firearms manufacturing industry. With eight years of experience, she started by picking and packing online orders and was promoted to her current role two years ago after about a year and a half in that position. Thomas oversees outbound shipments for distributor and online orders, manages associates handling packaging, and coordinates with customer service on complaints and with production on rush jobs. She specializes in improving processes, which has allowed her to increase pack rates and cut down on errors throughout her career. Thomas holds only a high school diploma and is currently pursuing further education at Western Governor's University. Her most notable achievement is leading her team to a million-dollar shipping week at the company. She attributes her success and rapid promotions to her ability to make processes more efficient combined with hard work. Thomas advises focusing solely on one's own tasks for smoother operations and encourages young women entering the industry to speak up about improvements. She faces challenges in embracing constant changes in shipping but sees opportunities in new calibers and contracts. Her current project involves rearranging the warehouse to enhance efficiency.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Victoria
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think being able to just really be able to improve the process. Pretty much every place I've gone, I've worked from like a starting position and then gotten promoted very quickly because I work really hard but it's also because I'm able to fix their process so it's more efficient than it was.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't worry about what anyone else is doing, just worry about what you're doing. I know sometimes it's hard to stay focused on like your individual department or whatever it is when other departments probably aren't doing what they should be doing but I feel like if I focus on just what I need to do then things tend to go more smoothly.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Pretty much just don't be afraid to speak up I guess. Like my biggest thing was actually saying something when I thought something could be improved and a lot of people just won't say anything. But I feel like if you keep saying something and eventually they will listen.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges: embracing change in shipping as it's constantly changing and things get outdated quickly. Opportunities: exciting stuff with different calibers of guns and new contracts coming out.
