Her Story

About Vijetha

Vijetha Mallappa serves as a Senior Account Technology Strategist at Microsoft, where she works with independent software vendor (ISV) customers across the state, local government, and education sectors. Since joining Microsoft, she has built a career at the intersection of technology strategy, customer transformation, and business outcomes. She helps organizations identify their most critical priorities and leverage Microsoft technologies to modernize their environments, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, cloud, security, data, and innovation. Her ability to connect technical expertise with business objectives enables customers and partners to move from technology planning to meaningful implementation and measurable impact.

Vijetha earned a B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from GSSSIETW, India, followed by an MBA in General Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She has also earned multiple professional certifications, including credentials in Azure AI, Azure Data Fundamentals, Dynamics, and DevOps. Her technical background encompasses application development, cloud platforms, enterprise architecture, and emerging AI technologies, giving her a well-rounded perspective on how organizations can adopt and scale technology effectively.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Vijetha is committed to collaboration, continuous learning, and community impact. She is an active member of Women at Microsoft and supports philanthropic initiatives, including efforts that promote educational opportunities for underprivileged girls in India and participation in Microsoft's Give campaign supporting food distribution. Vijetha attributes her success to first understanding an organization's priorities, constraints, and readiness for change before recommending a technology solution. She believes that the most advanced technology is not always the best solution unless it addresses the right business need. She encourages young women entering technology to lead with confidence, remain curious and adaptable, stay true to themselves, and speak up when they believe they are moving in the right direction.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Vijetha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to understanding that the most advanced technology does not automatically produce the best outcome. I believe meaningful results begin with clearly understanding the core priorities, existing constraints, readiness for change, and the value an organization is seeking to achieve. I approach every challenge by first asking what I am trying to accomplish, what may be preventing me from getting there, and what outcomes matter most. From there, I determine the most effective path forward, ensuring that the technology or solution is aligned with the organization’s needs, capabilities, and strategic goals.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received came from a manager at Microsoft who was also a woman in technology. She encouraged me not to be afraid to speak up when I know I am heading in the right direction. I have learned that confidence, preparation, and the willingness to advocate for my ideas can be more powerful than any perceived barrier, including language or fear of failure. When I have done the research, understand the direction, and believe in the path forward, I trust myself to speak with confidence. I also believe that failure is an opportunity to learn, grow, and become better, so I encourage others to embrace challenges, remain curious, and never let fear prevent them from moving forward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering the technology industry to embrace every opportunity, stay present, and make the most of each stage of their careers. Rather than simply asking how something should be done, I encourage them to actively participate in discussions, contribute strategic thinking, and lead with confidence. Technology is constantly evolving, so curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning are essential. Above all, I believe that confidence, curiosity, and focus are powerful drivers of long-term success, and women should trust their abilities, speak up, and remain open to growth and new possibilities.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in technology today is that women continue to be underrepresented, particularly in highly technical and leadership roles. At the same time, this creates a significant opportunity for women to bring diverse perspectives, expertise, and leadership to an evolving industry. I believe leadership and influence come from asking thoughtful questions, applying sound judgment, remaining open to learning, and having the confidence to contribute your perspective even when you may not have all the answers. Developing that confidence has been an important part of my own journey, and I believe it is essential for women who want to make a meaningful impact in technology.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are authenticity, self-awareness, and maintaining perspective. I believe in being true to myself, both professionally and personally, while remaining open to growth and change. Learning to accept circumstances, manage expectations, and keep a balanced perspective has helped me navigate challenges, make thoughtful decisions, and continue moving forward with confidence and purpose.
