Her Story

About Vita

I came to the United States in 2023 after earning a Master's degree in Gender Studies in Paris. Before that, I practiced as a human rights lawyer in Haiti for over five years, advocating for women and girls whose rights had been violated.

Today, my work bridges human rights, humanitarian law, and U.S. labor law. As a union organizer, I represent workers through collective bargaining, contract administration, grievances, and arbitration. I remain committed to advancing social justice by protecting workers' rights and promoting fair, equitable workplaces.

Ten minutes with Vita

01What do you attribute your success to?

My perseverance and positive mindset have been my greatest strengths throughout my journey. Moving to the United States reinforced those qualities. Although I arrived without a clear roadmap, I stayed focused on my long-term goals, embraced every setback as an opportunity to grow, and maintained a positive outlook. I have always believed in seeing the glass half full and turning challenges into opportunities.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't chase job titles. Instead, invest in building skills, cultivating meaningful relationships, and earning a reputation for excellence in the work you genuinely enjoy. Let your career be driven not only by the need to make a living, but by purpose, passion, and a commitment to making a difference.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Invest in your education and never stop learning. No matter how experienced or qualified you become, remain open to learning from everyone, regardless of their title or level of education. Never silence your voice, speak up, ask questions, and advocate for yourself and others. Stay curious, embrace new challenges, and let continuous growth guide your career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is rebuilding trust and solidarity within social movements. Working people are facing economic pressure, fear, immigration challenges, and rapidly changing workplaces. At the same time, these challenges create an opportunity to strengthen collective action. Real change happens when people show up, support one another, and recognize that our greatest power comes from standing together rather than waiting for others to act.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, empathy, and service are the values that guide both my professional and personal life. I believe in treating people with dignity, standing up for what is right even when it is difficult, and leading with compassion. I also value continuous learning, humility, and perseverance, because growth comes from remaining open, resilient, and committed to making a positive impact on others.
