Vivian Martin is a seasoned human resources professional with over three decades of experience in workforce management, employee relations, and organizational development. She retired from the City of Austin’s Aviation Department, where she spent more than 21 years as Human Resources Supervisor, overseeing programs in compensation, benefits, workforce planning, and employee relations. Earlier in her career, she held roles in compensation analysis and finance support, honing her expertise in personnel administration and organizational strategy. Vivian’s leadership and attention to detail have been recognized throughout her career, as she consistently implemented policies that improved operations and promoted equity across the organization.

Vivian’s educational foundation in business administration and organizational behavior, earned at Delgado Community College and the University of San Francisco, provided a strong platform for her career in human resources. She has leveraged this knowledge to develop and supervise comprehensive HR programs while fostering a culture of fairness, accountability, and collaboration. Her professional skills include policy and procedural writing, teambuilding, mediation, and strategic human capital management, all of which have contributed to her reputation as a trusted leader and mentor.

Beyond her technical expertise, Vivian is deeply committed to fostering inclusive and equitable workplaces. She has consistently applied her knowledge to enhance employee engagement, improve workplace efficiency, and provide guidance and support to colleagues. The best career advice I’ve ever received is to trust God, let Him lead, and allow Him to guide and direct my path.

My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: just do it—write your story, get everything out, and work with a skilled editor who can help shape your book.

The biggest challenge in my field right now is overcoming the worry about what others might think of the content of my book.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are honesty, trust, truth, integrity, and faith. I cherish my family—married 23 years with three children—enjoy spending time at home gardening, listening to jazz and oldies, being active in my church, and sharing my story through my memoir, On Assignment, launched in November 2025.
