About Wanda
Wanda Hainley is a veteran law enforcement professional, Human Trafficking Liaison, and Sergeant with the Hendry County Sheriff's Office in Florida, where she has served for 16 years. After beginning her career as a road deputy, she advanced to sergeant, supervised patrol operations, and later led the Criminal Interdiction Unit, addressing gangs, gun violence, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. Since assuming her current role as human trafficking liaison in 2019, she has focused on combating human trafficking through victim identification, investigative support, interagency collaboration, and survivor-centered services. A certified law enforcement officer, certified hostage negotiator, and ordained minister, Hainley combines public safety expertise with a faith-based commitment to serving vulnerable individuals. Widely recognized as an authority on human trafficking prevention, Hainley has dedicated her career to educating communities and strengthening coordinated responses to exploitation. She delivers specialized training for law enforcement agencies, healthcare professionals, educators, counselors, churches, hospitality businesses, and community organizations throughout Florida. As an approved trainer for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation and a trainer for the Florida Attorney General's Office, she equips professionals to recognize the often-overlooked indicators of trafficking and respond effectively. Her work emphasizes awareness, prevention, collaboration, and practical victim support while promoting stronger partnerships across public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Beyond her law enforcement responsibilities, Hainley is the founder and president of Christians United Against Human Trafficking, a nonprofit organization dedicated to education, advocacy, and survivor support. She serves on the board of directors for the Southwest Florida Coalition Against Human Trafficking and contributes to numerous regional and statewide initiatives, including the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking, the Southwest Florida INTERCEPT Task Force with Homeland Security, and the International Association of Human Trafficking Investigators. Guided by integrity, compassion, and faith, Hainley attributes her success to recognizing critical gaps in human trafficking prevention and following her calling to protect victims, empower communities, and pursue justice for those affected by exploitation.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Wanda
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to recognizing where I can make the greatest impact and stepping in to fill those gaps. When our sheriff identified human trafficking as a growing issue in Florida, we took a proactive approach to prepare our agency. I also strive to stay aware of changing needs, and my personal growth is grounded in my faith in the Lord.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received was to follow my heart. When you pursue your work for the right reasons and stay true to your purpose, you’ll always find the place where you’re meant to make the greatest impact.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Women are desperately needed in law enforcement. Women are nurturing by nature, and we may see things that men overlook. Especially when it comes to domestic violence, assault, sexual battery, and human trafficking.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Having enough personnel to meet the needs of communities, and the misrepresentation of law enforcement in the media. Community policing has to be huge in each agency.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity and meeting people where they are, and making sure the focus remains on the needs of the victim. Look at the whole person and try to make a change and meet their needs.
