Her Story

About Wendy

I've been in the tech consulting field for 6 years, but my career journey started much earlier as a schoolteacher for 15 years. I taught elementary school in both the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and also worked as a curriculum development consultant at a private university. When I decided I wanted to pursue technology, I attended a web development boot camp, which opened the door for me to join Accenture. What I discovered is that while the technical side is very important, I'm really more of a people manager - managing people is my passion, and if I can do it within the technical field, that's even better. I previously served as Chief of Staff on a 1,500-plus account, where I managed high-level managers and made sure everyone was onboarded and happy, ensuring the account was not just a place to work but a fun place to work as well. Now as a project manager for a mobile application, I connect with our global team across Mexico, India, and the Philippines, making sure everyone is aligned despite different time zones. I meet with stakeholders, work on testing, and create reports. My main areas of expertise are project management, people development, project organization, and agile management. I'm currently learning a lot about generative AI and agentic AI, and my aspiration is to manage AI teams in the future. Whether in education or project management, it's all about talent development and career growth for me - I love seeing people grow and helping them build projects from beginning to end.

Ten minutes with Wendy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to surrounding myself with thought leaders and pushing myself to learn every day. It's about constantly growing and making sure I'm connected to people who challenge and inspire me. I never stop learning - whether it's about the organization, new technologies like AI, or just staying current with what's happening in the field. I also don't let rejection get in my way. By staying curious, staying connected to the right people, and maintaining that commitment to continuous learning, I've been able to grow and succeed in my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to keep learning and never stop. Don't just focus on one area - keep learning about the organization, about things that are happening in your field, and stay current. And importantly, don't let rejection get in your way. Rejection is part of the journey, but you can't let it stop you from moving forward and pursuing your goals. That mindset of continuous learning and resilience has been crucial to my career transitions and growth.
