Her Story

About Wendy

Wendy Broughton serves as Regional Manager in property management, a role she has held for four years while representing Tucson, Arizona. With approximately 25 years in the field, she previously worked as an on-site property manager for six years and managed day-to-day operations for properties ranging from 64 to 1,500 units across multiple sites. Broughton earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Iowa and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. She is also a licensed real estate agent, a credential she obtained four years ago to meet requirements for overseeing multiple properties. Her career began during her undergraduate years in Iowa when she participated in a program that allowed her to barter work for rent as a single mother, leading her to property management after a period as an executive assistant. Broughton credits her success to hard work and dedication, values instilled during her upbringing in Iowa where she began working at a young age. She advises maintaining perspective in the demanding field by not taking every issue too seriously, handling matters minute by minute, and preserving work-life balance to spend time with family. In her role, she supports her staff to provide consistent responses to residents and values her accomplishments while working hard for her grandkids and dogs.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Wendy

01What do you attribute your success to?

Hard work and dedication. I grew up in Iowa where you work hard and play hard. I was working babysitting at a young age, and it's always been ingrained in me that hard work gets you where you want to be.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't take the job too seriously. It's a very serious job, but if you let every little thing get to you in property management, you could get really overwhelmed and stressed super easily. Take everything minute by minute because things change so quickly. Keep a work-life balance, make sure that when you're home, you're relaxing and spending time with family.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Dealing with residents who are upset by the time they reach me after going through other staff. I work closely with my staff to ensure consistent answers and back them up.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value all of the accomplishments I've made. I'm a super hard worker and really dedicated to the job. I work very hard so that my dogs and my grandkids can have a better life.
