About Wendy
Wendy Taylor founded Faith STEAM LLC in Atlanta, Georgia in 2019. She self-published Precision STEAM in 2022, a book covering Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, Art, and Math, and has developed STEAM experiences such as STEAM through Black History and activities at Dr. Lonnie Johnson's activity center involving robotics and AI. Taylor, who holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in operations management from the University of Arizona earned in 1987, describes herself as a connector rather than a STEM professional. She chairs the gala for the Atlanta Black Chamber and received a leadership award for that work. Taylor attributes her success to her strong faith in God and persistence, a trait she developed running track in high school.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Wendy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to God and my strong faith. I became a prayer warrior through divorce and challenges with a special needs child. The biggest gift is persistence, like when I ran track in high school and kept pushing forward despite starting at the back of the pack.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Entrepreneurship is not for the faint at heart. You have to decide this is what you want to do and go for it. There are resources like ChatGPT, chambers, women's groups. It takes time and work, not overnight success. Put in the work and you will reap the benefits.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The challenge is helping people understand that faith and science can be discussed together without colliding. The opportunity is working with churches and non-profits on youth groups and hands-on STEM activities to remove the intimidation around STEM.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Strong work ethic is really important. Anything worth having doesn't come easy. Be ethical so you can sleep at night. Good customer service, solving problems from beginning to end. Give back to others. Education is important.
