Her Story

About Wendy

I am a marketing and brand development leader with over three decades of experience helping businesses grow through strategic, evidence-based marketing guidance, currently serving as Owner and President of Octo Design Group, a B2B full-service marketing partner I founded in February 1991, where I help brands develop, evolve, and grow through strategic guidance, serving fifteen to thirty clients annually and running sixty to ninety-plus projects simultaneously. We specialize in brand identity, print and web marketing collateral, responsive website design, copywriting, and marketing strategy and research, translating large-scale concepts into scalable and achievable marketing and design goals.

I am also a Co-Founder of Rallie Inc., a role I have held since March 2020, where we developed the Let's Rallie app, an activity itinerary generator that helps local businesses increase revenue and reach target audiences. The app has signed up over eight hundred seventy-five businesses throughout the region and has over four thousand three hundred users since its launch in March 2021, playing a major role in activating communities through events including FanFest, Philadelphia's Burger Brawl, and the Shop Dine Main Line campaign.

I also serve as a Fractional Chief Marketing Officer through my self-employed practice, Wendy Verna: Growth Guru, a role I have held since January 2007, where I provide marketing direction and implementation for businesses of any size or industry, helping them outline their marketing needs, build a plan, and execute with the support of my vast network connections.

I hold a BFA in Illustration and Design from Moore College of Art and Design and completed the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business program.

Across my career in marketing, brand development, and entrepreneurship, my work has been driven by a commitment to helping businesses reach their potential and exceed their expectations through strategic insight, creative execution, and a deep understanding of marketing trends and technology. Whether I am leading a full-service marketing agency, co-founding a tech startup, or serving as a fractional CMO, I bring an energetic, entrepreneurial approach and a dedication to delivering concise solutions that drive results. I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career and excited to continue helping businesses grow and succeed through Octo Design Group, Rallie Inc., and my fractional CMO practice.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Wendy

01What do you attribute your success to?

Resilience and grit along with my network of people. I have a very Apollo 13 failure's not an option mindset.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Building your network and being very purposeful about that is probably the most important thing.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

AI is the biggest challenge as people do not want to pay the same amount because they can use tools like Claude or Chat to create work themselves, leading to lack of need for experience.
