Her Story
About Whitney
I've been on social media since I had a phone, and I realized early that I had a passion for it. I just love connecting with people all over the world and being able to showcase my creativity online. I've always posted, but when I came to college at University of Miami, I started taking it more seriously. I documented my experiences as a student and campus life and everything, and that kind of really took off. A lot of prospective students saw it and would reach out to me with questions they had about the school, and I gained a bit of a following. Then brands started reaching out, and last semester I had over 10 contract brand deals going at once, and I did that all myself without a manager. I'm currently a content creator for Turbo AI, where I produce 5 to 7 videos a week. They give me scripts to go off of, and I can add some creativity, then submit it to my coach who gives me suggestions. I was able to make 6 videos go viral in a week, so I'm getting a lot of real marketing knowledge and experience in how to really engage an audience with a hook and storytelling. I've already completed projects with my dream companies like Sephora and Uber. I'm studying marketing at my dream school where I got a scholarship, and I'm graduating a year early. I also want to go to law school after and combine marketing and law in entertainment law.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Whitney
01What do you attribute your success to?
I just always think really highly of myself, and I always think I can do better, so I'm just always trying to do better than what I did yesterday, and that just keeps me motivated.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I don't know where I heard it, but someone said, no one is ever ready. You wait until you feel ready to take on an opportunity, but no one will ever feel ready, and it's just who takes it first. So if you don't jump on it, someone else will take the opportunity from you, so always take the risk. That's what I follow now.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say just go for it, because especially on social media, a lot of people are scared and worried that other people are gonna judge them for posting on social media. I would say people are gonna judge you regardless. People are already judging you right now, so just do what makes you happy. And it's so worth it in the end.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Probably the oversaturation, because everyone is online making videos, and it's hard to kind of break into it when there's so many people. But at the same time, I feel like there's room for everyone, and obviously, I'm kind of new to it, and I've already had a lot of success and viral videos, and so it's just all about showing your personality and getting creative with it.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I would say expanding my network and building my personal brand, because I'm trying to build my personal brand every day. I'm posting on my personal TikTok every single day, and also the network part. Especially coming to college, I've really stepped out of my comfort zone and joined clubs, and went to mixers and all that. I have really bad anxiety, so I'm never the type of person to put myself out there, but I have been talking to people, and expanding my network, and it's helped me a lot.
