About Whitney
Whitney Mayer serves as Assistant General Counsel at Clark Associates, a private label distributor based in Lancaster, a role she began in July after nearly a decade in big law. In this position, she advises business stakeholders on product safety, product compliance, and food safety matters arising in private label distribution. Prior to this, Whitney spent six years at Reed Smith handling drug and medical device defense litigation and mass torts, one year at Holladay Night continuing similar work while adding employment law and commercial litigation, and two years at Polsinelli focusing on commercial litigation alongside mass tort drug and device cases. She earned her undergraduate degree in international relations with a minor in biology from Mercedes College, her J.D. from University of Pennsylvania Law School, and a Master's in Public Health from Perelman School of Medicine, completing the latter two simultaneously. Whitney previously served as a board member for the Louisville Clinic for the disabled in Philadelphia, an organization close to her heart. She attributes her professional success to strong support systems including family and mentors, and she values humility, curiosity, a strong work ethic, and flexibility in approaching complex legal strategies.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Whitney
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think it's just definitely a variety of support systems from my family to my mentors.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
It's always better even if someone says something to you that you really disagree with and you just want to have that last word, it is so much better to be nice and to take the high road.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Seek out experience over titles and money because it's taken away but no one can take away experience. Find a role that is consistent with your values because I think that that'll help you go the farthest.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Humility, curiosity, a willingness to work hard, and to understand that you're not necessarily going to know the answer 100% but being flexible enough to let new facts take shape to find the best strategy.
